Abstract: 

HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Application: Identification of High-Risk malaria affected area - Health department. 

Introduction to the application specification
The Health Department at the District Level implements the Malaria Eradication Program. The Health Department suggested that an application be developed that can identify the high-risk malaria affected area, given the blood smear reports. Under the Program, the Department first identifies the high risk areas, secondly delineates the malaria affected area and then prepares an action plan strategizing control actions to be taken in these areas. The blood smears are taken every two months at village level. This data is collated at the taluk level and based on comparison of data of subcentre for the earlier months, the area is declared as either high risk area or not. Blood sample reports of the high-risk areas are compared with those of the adjacent areas to delineate the malaria-infected area. The vector control measures are administered depending on whether the infected area consists of open water tanks or not. The scope of this application is limited to identification of high-risk areas and delineation of affected areas.

About the application
The application identifies high risk Village(s) & Sub-centre(s) within a taluk, from village level blood smear data for the year wanted by the user. The criteria considered by the program are - Slide Positivity Rate (SPR)*, Annual Parasite Incidence (API)*, P. Falciparum proportion (PF%)*. The application enables the user to save / print out reports and maps of these high-risk areas. There is a provision to view earlier outputs (both maps & reports), if they were saved. The application comes with a statistics module to prepare Sub-centre wise or village wise thematic maps on any of the criteria (SPR, API, and PF%), in a taluk for the user input year and its previous two years.

Introduction to the application specification
The Department of Sericulture implements a number of schemes for the development of sericulture in the district. Some of the schemes implemented by the department are "Silk Farms scheme", "Uzy Fly Eradication", "Kissan Nursery", "Bivoltine", etc. 
The Sericulture Dept. suggested that an application be developed that can identify the parcels growing mulberry at the village level and also recommend the required dosage of fertilisers.
Under the Silk Farms scheme maintenance of mulberry farms of the farmers and of the department are taken up. The maintenance works, implemented by the department, include supply of manure, disinfectants and pesticides based on the soil test.

About the application
The application identifies all the parcels growing mulberry at the village in a taluk and also enables the user to obtain the required dosage of fertilisers based on the soil test. The criteria considered by this application are - Crops grown in the farm and Nutrient profile of the soil (N P K values).
